Protest Pancakes

Pancakes Not MapleMy most recent Vermont Public Radio commentary aired today on a topic of critical importance: Faux Food

By coincidence it aired the same day that I had a dinner with pancakes sporting non-maple sauces (the relevance will make sense if you listen to the commentary) – sauces I can only give by name, not recipe, since I made them up as I went along:

  • Fig-Tea-Honey
  • Blackberry Mint Julep (with cream)
  • Butterscotch Pineapple
  • Lemon Whipped Cream
  • Fresh Blueberries
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

In this experiment I learned that yes, you can mix random stuff in your house together until you have an interesting and tasty sauce that at no point requires fake maple syrup. I would have had more if I went savory. Just saying that I not only made a rhetorical point, I tested it too. And it was delicious.
